19th July 2011:

Emily, Amy, Bev (chair of the committee, and parent) and Janine (one of our young volunteers) had a lovely day at a Buckingham Palace Garden Party, celebrating the Me2 Club's Queen's Award. The party was also attended by the Queen and Prince Phillip, Prince Charles and Camilla, Princess Anne, Prince Edward and Sophie and Princess Alexandra! The Me2 team enjoyed walking through the palace, wandering around the gardens, listening to military bands, eating cucumber sandwiches  and drinking tea.  Even the rain did not spoil this wonderful occasion.

July 2011:

We are excited to let you know that the Me2 Club has received a Big Lottery Fund Reaching Communities grant to continue the 2 projects we successfully piloted last year (inclusion training and weekends away).  This funding will enable us to employ a full time 3rd member of staff,  so will also increase the children we can support. A big thank you to the Big Lottery Fund for their support.

We are delighted to announce that the Me2 Club is of the 2011 winners of The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service, the MBE for groups of volunteers who work in their local community for 'the benefit of others.

This is a great honour for The Me2 Club and recognises the  commitment of our volunteers, and the impact our work has on supporting children, families and activities. A commemorative crystal and a certificate will be presented to us by the Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire, on behalf of The Queen, and a small group of Me2 Club staff, parents and volunteers will represent the charity.

We have received many messages of congratulation - and would like to share with you some thoughts of one of the Queen's representatives that came to meet us when we were nominated for the Award:

'Many congratulations on the Queen's Award.  I was delighted to hear you had won it.  Me2 ticked every box and it was thoroughly and absolutely deserved.

It was hugely interesting to come to see you all, and I am really thrilled.  I do hope that you and all your volunteers will take great pride in it.

The Queen once said (in a documentary) that everyone needs a pat on the back from time to time.  This is it'.

A massive well done and thank you to all our volunteers - without you the work we do wouldn't be possible.
